Case 3
For Case 3, we were given the topic of safe online communication. The goal of this case was to create a lesson plan that would help our colleagues (the other teachers in the school) to understand different Internet-related issues. We decided what we were going to do this by going over how we, as teachers, would like to be taught about safe online communication. We thought by teaching the teachers and then having them teach the students, they would be able to teach their students how they know their students like to be taught. Also, by giving the teacher a chance to teach their students, it will give them a better understanding of safe online communication and it will allow the students to be in the environment they are comfortable with and what they are used to.
With this lesson, we formatted it so that it was a mandatory meeting for all teachers. It is a short meeting (about 25 minutes) where they will learn how to safely communicate online as teachers, as well as be able to in turn teach their students how to safely communicate online. We started out with a short video about it, and then had a quick power point about the topic. We ended with scenarios and discussion questions so the teachers could talk among themselves and then we could all come together as a group to discuss what to do in each situation. At the end, they were all given a short survey on their iPad to give us feedback about the lesson. Feel free to look at my blog for more details about how our lesson plan worked out!
